AUBREY MURPHY
An outstanding violin by Giuseppe Rocca, Genoa c 1853 is now in the able hands of Aubrey Murphy, concertmaster of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (AOBO). The Orchestra performs at the world-renowned Sydney Opera House. Murphy's Rocca has become his constant companion, "The Rocca is out of this world. It has a wonderful, sonorous, incredibly penetrating quality that goes to the back of even a dry hall like the Opera House with incredible quality and vibrancy." Murphy worked with former classmate at Indiana University Gabriel Ben-Dashan: "Gabriel's a fabulous fiddle player. He's managed to harness knowledge of violins and that's so important to help match player and instrument. Gabriel lets the customer take the time he needs to explore and make the right decision. Keisuke Hori made some adjustments while I was in the shop. I was able to take the Rocca back to Australia to try it out. Everyone admired it." Murphy is the founder of the Utzon Ensemble, named after Jørn Utzon, architect of the Sydney Opera House. A high point for Utzon Ensemble was the performance of Stravinsky's L'histoire du soldat with David Wenham (the critically acclaimed Australian actor who played Faramir in Lord of the Rings).
