AUSTIN HUNTINGTON

Austin Huntington

Twelve-year-old Austin Huntington got a very special gift last Christmas: a Whedbee cello: "I love it. It's really warm and bright, but not too much of either." Huntington is now a seventh grader at Saint Joseph Middle School in Mishawaka, Indiana. He studies with Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist Richard Hirschl and is principal cellist with the South Bend (Indiana) Youth Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra he joined when he was just eight. The young cellist is very interested in both solo repertoire and chamber music. To further his studies he has attended several prestigious summer programs including the Academie Internationale de Musique de Montpellier in France where he studied with Colin Carr, Wolfgang Laufer, and Young Chang Cho; the International Music Academy in Pilsen; Meadowmount; and the Indiana University String Academy. He took first prize in the Society of American Musicians Competition this year. He has been invited to perform in master classes led by Richard Aaron, Susan Moses-Bloom, Hans Jensen, and Colin Carr.

"I tried several other cellos elsewhere, but then I tried the Whedbee. I really enjoyed working with Alec Fushi."
