Owning an exceptional violin by Nicolò Amati, Cremona, 1650, has been a profoundly life-changing experience for Barbara Scowcroft, a first violin with the Utah Symphony for 24 years: "Joe Bein called me about the Amati. I've wanted to spend more time with the fiddle for a long time. Having the Amati, this incredible vehicle, has provided that impetus. It feels like I'm learning how to play the violin all over again." Scowcroft's husband, Ralph Matson, is Utah's concertmaster and a long-time Bein & Fushi customer. "I saw Ralph get the Bellosio at Bein & Fushi. I was very impressed with Robert Bein. Robert assesses the person you are and waits to find the perfect fit. Ralph's instrument suits him perfectly," Scowcroft remarked. Scowcroft also acquired a wonderful Pierre Simon bow, "I also worked with Joe on the bow. He came up with the Simon and it's a great match for the Amati." Scowcroft has served as the Utah Youth Symphony's music director since 1986. And she has been the director and general manager of the Nova Chamber Music Series of Salt Lake City for almost two decades. In 1999 Scowcroft was honored with the Governor's Award in the Arts for the Nova Chamber Series. The Salt Lake Chamber, a chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, and Utah Business magazine selected Scowcroft as one of thirty visionary women in the state for 2003.

"Matching the musicians soul with the perfect instrument—it's an undeniable component. Robert Bein is very perceptive and sensitive to people's goals as musicians."
