Utah Concertmaster Ralph Matson acquired his outstanding violin by Anselmo Bellosio, Venice, 1780 in 2002: "I had been in the shop for appraisals in the past, but had not purchased anything before. Robert [Bein] was really helpful in getting the violin to me and recognizing it was a very good match." Like many professionals, Matson had the need for a second instrument: "I got a violin by Will Whedbee so I would be less worried about using it outdoors. Whedbees are consistently wonderful. I recommend them to my students and colleagues." Matson was appointed Utah Symphony concertmaster in 1985. Prior to assuming his post with Utah, he was a member of The Cleveland Orchestra and served as assistant concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra. For his solo appearances with Minnesota and Utah, he has collaborated with many distinguished conductors including Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Leonard Slatkin, Sir Neville Marriner, Joseph Silverstein, Keith Lockhart, and Pavel Kogan. For the last ten years Matson has spent his summers at the Grand Teton Music Festival where he is concertmaster of the Festival orchestra. He received his bachelor's degree from Yale College and his master's degree from the Yale School of Music. His principal teachers were Joseph Silverstein and Steven Staryk.

"I've always come back to Bein & Fushi because it's been a very, very positive experience and for the high quality of merchandise and service. If I have a need for me or for a colleague or student, I can give a call to Joe Bein and get some personalized attention."
