An exceptional cello by

Antonio Stradivari

Cremona, c. 1690, “Betts, Iwasaki”

We seldom have the opportunity to offer a cello by Stradivari. This instrument was Ko Iwasaki's main concert instrument for a large part of his career. The cello originally had a viol shape with rounded shoulders and a flat back. The back was replaced by the Hills of London with a standard carved, arched back in order to improve the tonal qualities of the cello, which they most certainly did. The "Betts, Iwasaki" is tonally just as beautiful as one would expect of a Stradivari. This instrument is offered at a lower price as a result of that alteration and is an excellent value. The original back is included. This cello is fit for a soloist.
