An outstanding violin by

Pietro Guarneri

Venice, c. 1750

Violins by Pietro Guarneri are considered to be just below those of Carlo Bergonzi. This instrument was made on a grand pattern model which is generally considered to be more soloistic in character. The varnish is a beautiful golden brown in color. Tonally, the violin has strong projection with a mezzo quality of sound. The one piece slab-cut maple back is quite beautiful and reminiscent of many of the works by the Amati family.
