There are several excellent makers from the late 19th and early 20th centuries whose merits are now recognized. Among these makers, Scarampella stands at the forefront because of the outstanding quality of his varnish which has the consistency and color of an 18th century Italian master. A rare early example of Scarampella's work, this violin has great projection as well as a del Gesù-like rich basso quality of sound.
