John K. Becker
Instrument Expert and Master Restorer
A collaboration with Robert Bein that began thirty-two years ago has culminated in the appointment of John Becker as the instrument expert for Bein & Fushi. In the mid-1980s Becker, already acknowledged around the world as one of the foremost instrument restorers, began assisting Robert Bein with instrument authentication.
The master craftsman brought his keen eye and his knowledge of the details of the Italian masters to his daily work with Robert Bein on the identification and authentication of rare instruments. And Bein and Becker have built one of the most extensive photo libraries of rare instruments over the past three decades. "My collaboration with Robert was a natural extension of my restoration work," Becker commented. "I've always been deeply interested in the identification and cataloging of instruments."
"John Becker is the Heifetz of restorers."
— Robert Bein
"I am honored to have been chosen by Robert Bein to carry this important work forward."
— John Becker
Becker's many innovations in the restoration and tonal adjustments of the Italian masterworks have set the highest standards in the field. He is sought after by top international concert artists, orchestra members, and world-renowned collectors for his ability to restore, maintain, and adjust their instruments at the highest level. Becker has worked with many of today's most distinguished artists: Joshua Bell, Nigel Kennedy, Elmar Oliveira, Vadim Repin, Gil Shaham, Maxim Vengerov, Midori, Vadim Gluzman, Robert Chen, James Ehnes, and many others.
"John is one of a very few in the world who brings years of daily experience restoring rare antique instruments to his work as an appraiser. We are thrilled to continue to collaborate with John in both areas."
— Geoffrey Fushi
